Batman Begins: Tumbler

Here is my custom paint job on TYCO RC Batman Tumbler. It took me a month and it still needs some touch up with paint here and there. Very impressive in term of size as it claims to be 1/6 scale and it runs on Ni-Mh battery but really fall short on the distance. It would stop not more than 10 meters away.

I manage to find 2 of these in eBay and shipped them back to Singapore. I tested them and found both to be in working conditions and with LED lights but they are in yellow.

Borrow the idea from a RC forum and I went for 2 pairs of IMEX Swamp Dawgs (Soft) Tire #7404. These are rubber tires which will wrap over the original half rubber and half plastic tires. This gives the tumbler a more realistic looks.

Taking apart the original tires. The IMEX tires inner diameter is enlarged and wrapped around the original tires.

Left side is completely wrapped with IMEX tires to show the different.

The left tumbler is completed with IMEX tires and it really adds some weight to the tumbler.

Now for the painting. Any parts that are not meant to be color is masked with tape.

Top coat is sprayed on and follow by a white base.

Ship deck color is sprayed on over the white coat and it will appear lighter in color.

The camouflage brown is sprayed on after careful masking out the patterns on the tumbler.

Carefully remove the masking tape to review the finished patterns.

Here is the finished prototype tumbler as when Bruce Wayne test drive it before asking whether it comes in black.

Here is the tumbler in action.....

Next post will be my collection of 1/6 figures from hot toys, medicom, enterbay and others.

    1. I used Tamiya spray paint, "TS-1 Red Brown" and Mr color "ship deck" since Tamiya "light sand" comes out darker tone than Mr color.
